eBook Marketing
What is an eBook?
An eBook is simply a written
document saved into one downloadable file for distribution. The eBook is
distributed in a non-modifiable format (in an executable file or Adobe PDF
format). The e-book is one of the most powerful viral internet marketing tools.
e-Books are very similar to normal physical books in the sense that they are
rich in content and often a huge resource for information. e-Books come often with
user friendly navigation tools and external links (to reference or product
websites). e-Book can be completely interactive with the Internet and can contain
live links, graphics, forms, embedded video or audio and more.
e-Books are considered to be the "perfect" viral internet marketing tool. Not
only do they provide your visitors with something of value, but they also enable
you to promote your products and services. Your e-book can literally be viewed by
millions simply by giving it away and allowing it to be freely distributed.
The concept is simple. The idea is to create a compelling e-book that targets
your potential customer. As an alterative, you can buy e-books with resell
rights and bundle them with your e-book or use as a give away with another
product you sell. (Example: visit our
e-Book website). Most books with resell
rights come with ready made sales pages. If you are interested in a similar
website, please contact us.
There are thousands of mini-sites selling e-books, giving away e-books, bundling
e-book packages etc. The same e-book might cost $47.00 on one website, given
away free on another website if you buy a $9.95 e-book, and may be part of a
bundle of 100 e-books you can buy for $19.95.
How is that all possible? After three initial releases, most e-books are then
sold with resell rights and/or master resale rights. This causes several more
(thousands) marketers selling the same e-book..
So what are
the different kinds of Resale Rights?
1. Limited Use Rights. The typical right you get when you buy a
book, e-book or any other product for that matter. You might use it for personal
use only. In case of an e-book or another software product, you might usually
make a backup copy, but you are not allowed to sell a copy of the product you
purchased.
2. Giveaway Rights. As the name suggest, you may give the e-book away as a gift, but you
can’t sell it. This is often the case with an e-book what contains a lot of
promotional information (links) to benefit the writer/publisher. By getting this
e-book freely distributed he gets other profitable business.
3. Royalty Rights. With this right, you can resell copies of
the e-book, but you have to pay a percentage to the author as a royalty.
4. Standard Resale Rights (like reprint rights). With this
right you can resell the e-book (or other product) and keep all the profits from
your sales. You cannot pass on the resale rights to your customers. Your
customers will not have the right to resell the e-book. In most cases you must
market the e-book yourself so you will occur a cost for hosting, support, refunds
etc.
5. Non-transferable Master Resale Rights. This right
allows you to sell the product, keep all the money and allow your customers to
sell the products as well (standard resale rights). You do not have the right to
pass on or sell the Master Resale Rights to your customers, i.e. they have to go
and buy the master resale rights from the author themselves.
6. Full Master Resale Rights. This right means you can sell the
products, keep all the money and allow your customer to resell the products as
well. They can do the same. Basically, every person whop owns the product is
allowed to sell it.
7. Private Label Resale Rights. With Private Label Resale
Rights you can modify the product so that it appears to have been created by
you. You are typically allowed to change the embedded links or to add your own
links, your own name and sometimes the graphics and title as well. The Private
Label Resale Rights for e-books may also allow you to freely edit the content any
way you like to do it or use the content in other ways. The only restrictions
usually are that you cannot claim copyright to the resulting ebook. Although you
might make the e-book look like your own, you do not own the copyright to it and
must still adhere to some of the conditions associated with the e-book (example:
sometimes you are not allowed to sell the e-book on eBay). Another restriction
could be that you could only sell it with Standard Resale Rights, not Full
Master Resale Rights.
8. Additional Restrictions on Rights. Each type of right could
have restrictions placed upon them, limiting the ways in which they can be
distributed. Common restrictions could be that the e-book cannot be given away,
not sold through auction sites, not allowed to give it or include in bundles or
included in membership sites. Restrictions should be explicitly stated in the
license.
Benefits of Publishing your own eBook.
e-Books are continuing to play a very important role in Internet Marketing. How can your
business benefit from e-books? There is much benefit in publishing your own e-book(s). This could be done by writing e-books yourself or obtaining Private Label Resale Rights
eBooks. One of the major benefits of selling e-books is that
anyone without experience can create an e-book and with proper marketing
strategies can build a large customer base. The ability to create e-books can put
you in an incredibly powerful position. e-Books can allow you to:
1. Create your own unique products. Every e-book that you create is a product that you can
sell, or give away to your customers or prospects. Best of all - nobody else
will create the same e-book as you - your e-book is unique.
2. Easily deliver to customers at virtually zero cost. Traditional
product such as printed Books cost money to ship to customers - lowering your
profit margin. Worse, you will almost certainly need to keep some inventory -
which ties up your cash, and leaves you at risk of being stuck with goods that
you can't sell. Information Products such as e-books are very different. Your
delivery costs can be minimal, and if delivered over the Internet, you are
unlikely to ever require any inventory whatsoever. When you deliver your
information product over the Internet, you simply upload your e-book to your web
space and allow your customers to download it. (If you use a credit card payment
processing service, any fees they apply of course still apply)
3. Generate leads for your business. If you need leads for your business, then giving away free e-books could be a good way to get them. Ask your prospects to give you their contact details in return for giving them your
valuable Information Product. For more ideas on this method of promoting your
business, be sure to read the other sections on this website.
4. Drive traffic to your web site. e-Books can contain links
to Internet sites including your own. If you give away free e-book containing
in-demand information, and give people permission to copy them, then they could
spread across the Internet like wildfire. Provided you make sure the e-book is
related to your business, every reader will know about your site, know that you
are an expert on the subject of your e-book, and many will come to you to buy
your other products or services.
5. Boost your Internet profile. Many of today's most popular and
respected Internet personalities got their start, or at the very least,
significantly raised their profile with e-books. Authors of good quality free
e-books can benefit because people know they provide valuable and trustworthy
information - and very often when shopping for a product, people will go to one
of the author's site first (especially if it's linked from the e-book they are
reading).
6. Publish your own documents in a secure format. If you publish
information you'll want to be sure that it is distributed in the original
unmodified form. The last thing that you want is somebody else stealing your
work, or falsely claiming it as their own work. If you publish your info-product
as a Microsoft Office, Text or HTML files - then you are leaving yourself
wide-open to this type of abuse. On the other hand, if you publish your work in
e-book form, you have much less to worry about.
Why every Internet Business should have its own ebook?
A fairly standard piece of advice you'll find on marketing web sites is that Internet Marketers
must have their own e-book because "you get to keep most of the profit". It is
better then joining an affiliate program. Don’t neglect that the benefits of
having your own product go far beyond the profit per-sale, and include:
1. Uniqueness. If you have your own product, you have something that's unique rather than
being one of a thousand or ten thousand similar sites. Use this to your
advantage, and it'll be much easier to market to the public, and get press and
media attention.
2. Be in Control. Build your site around somebody else's product, and you're at mercy
of somebody else's decision processes. Wouldn't you feel more comfortable with a
great degree of control of over what is, in the end, your business?
3. Be the Center. If you join an affiliate program there are probably several thousand
other affiliates in the same or similar programs, all of which are, to a greater
or less degree, your competitors, and none of which will go out of their way to
help you. On the other hand if you have your own unique offering, provided you
give others a good incentive to help you (like start your own affiliate
program), you're going to benefit from their marketing efforts too.
4. Own the Customer. Nearly every affiliate program says the in small print that the
buyer is a customer of the program operator/merchant and not the affiliate. The
reason why is simple: provided a customer gets a satisfactory product and good
service, they'll usually go back direct to the merchant to buy more later, and
usually the program operator gets to keep 100% of the profits from these sales.
So if you're an affiliate you've either got to find an endless supply of new
customers, or cross your fingers and hope that people will bookmark your site
before clicking on the affiliate link. On the other hand if you're the program
operator, you get the benefit of the additional profits from repeat customers,
and even if you only have 1 product, you can still generate a highly profitable
back-end by offering your customers closely related products using affiliate
programs or joint marketing.
5. Able to do
Joint Venture. Run an affiliate web site, and your joint marketing options
with other sites are pretty limited - mostly involving swapping links or ads
with other sites, many which of might be your competitors anyway. Offer your own
product, and a whole range of additional options open up, including allowing
other companies to offer your product (or a special version of it), marketing
other companies products to your customer base in return for them doing the same
for you, giving discounts to customers of your preferred marketing partners and
more.
6. Be able to Focus. It's a fact of life that many affiliates flit from program to program
as new opportunities present themselves. Far too often this is done on a whim,
but sometimes, good short-term business reasons can be behind the decision. It's
hard to turn down an offer which you know is going to make you extra profits in
the short-run even if it does nothing to build your business. On the other hand,
if you have your own product, it imposes a natural discipline and focus to your
business, this of course being a key step on the road to success.
Sometimes just one
or two of these benefits can be enough to form the foundation of a successful
Internet business. Even if you already have your own Internet store or your own
e-books, it might be worth creating additional products just to capture a
benefit that was previously beyond your reach. When you analyze things further,
and decide what product to offer, you should concentrate on the benefits that
you want from your product. For example, if your main goal is to acquire
customers, provided you can develop and deliver the product cheaply enough, you
may even want to make the product free to maximize your rate of customer
acquisition. All things being equal, a golfing store that gives away a million
free booklets of golfing tips is going to sell a lot more golf clubs that one
that just waits for traffic to arrive (see our
Online Golf Info website)
So to sum up, the marketing gurus are right after all - although perhaps for different reasons
than the main one that is often put forward - offering your product or e-book really does
put you in the driving seat.
